Seven categories, one converter
Pick a category, then choose the "from" and "to" units — the converter comes preloaded with a sensible default pair for each of the seven categories (length, mass, temperature, volume, area, speed and digital storage). Type a number into either value field and the other one updates instantly; the swap button flips both the units and the values in one click, so there is no fixed "input" or "output" side.
Exact conversion factors
Every non-temperature category converts through a single base unit using standards-defined, exact factors — the international yard/pound agreement for feet, inches and pounds, NIST's definitions for the US gallon and fluid ounce, and the SI/IEC prefixes for decimal (KB, MB, GB, TB) versus binary (KiB, MiB, GiB) digital storage. Temperature is the one category that needs an offset rather than a simple scale factor, so Celsius, Fahrenheit and Kelvin are converted through an affine formula instead of a multiplier. Every calculation runs entirely in your browser — nothing is sent to a server.
Frequently asked questions
Which unit categories are supported?
Seven: length, mass, temperature, volume, area, speed and digital storage — the last one covers both decimal (KB, MB, GB, TB) and binary (KiB, MiB, GiB) prefixes.
What is the difference between GB and GiB?
GB (gigabyte) uses the decimal SI prefix: 1 GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes. GiB (gibibyte) uses the binary IEC prefix: 1 GiB = 1,073,741,824 bytes (1024³) — about 7.4% larger. This is why a drive advertised in GB shows a smaller number of GiB in your operating system.
How does the two-way conversion work?
Type a value on either side and the other side updates instantly — there is no separate "convert" button, and neither field is a fixed input or output.
Is my data sent to a server?
No — every conversion runs entirely in your browser using exact, standards-defined conversion factors; nothing is transmitted or stored.
