What an APN is
An APN (Access Point Name) is the profile that tells a phone how to reach an operator's mobile-data network — the gateway name plus the parameters the modem needs to open a data session. Modern SIMs ship the right APN automatically, but you still need it by hand when a device fails to provision, when a data-only or IoT SIM has no carrier config, or when you build a test profile in the lab. This builder validates every field against the public Android schema and exports the result for Android or iOS.
The fields that matter
The APN name and the MCC/MNC pair identify the network. The
type lists what the profile carries — default for internet,
mms for picture messaging, supl for assisted GPS, ia for
the initial attach bearer. The protocol selects the IP stack
(IP = IPv4, IPV6, or IPV4V6 dual-stack), with a
separate roaming protocol so roaming can fall back to IPv4. The
authentication type is 0 none, 1 PAP, 2
CHAP or 3 either — only relevant when the operator sets a username and password.
Romanian operator settings
Presets cover the three live Romanian networks. Orange uses the APN
net with no username. Vodafone uses
live.vodafone.com with the live / vodafone
credentials and PAP. Digi uses internet. Telekom Romania Mobile
(226-03) has been retired and its subscribers are moving to Vodafone and Digi, so no current
Telekom APN is offered. Load a preset, adjust anything you need, then copy the settings table,
the Android apns-conf.xml element, or download an iOS
.mobileconfig configuration profile.
Frequently asked questions
What is an APN and which fields matter?
The APN (Access Point Name) tells the phone how to reach the operator data network. Beyond the name, the fields that matter are the type (default for internet, mms for picture messaging), the IP protocol (IPv4, IPv6 or IPv4v6), the authentication type and any username or password. This builder validates all of them.
Do you have Romanian operator settings?
Yes — one-click presets for Digi, Orange and Vodafone Romania, editable before you export. They are dated and kept current; the retired Telekom Romania Mobile APN is marked as migrating to Vodafone or Digi.
What can I export?
A readable settings table to copy, an Android apns-conf.xml element, and an iOS .mobileconfig configuration profile. The Android schema is from the Apache-2.0 AOSP sample.
