Write any number in words
Type a number and this tool spells it out in full words — in Romanian (numărul în litere) or English. It handles values from zero up to 999,999,999,999 and, in currency mode, a two-decimal subunit. Everything runs in your browser, so the number you type never leaves your device.
Where number-to-words is used
Spelling amounts in words is standard practice on cheques, invoices, receipts, promissory notes and contracts, because a written-out amount is much harder to alter than a row of digits. Teachers and language learners also use it to check how large numbers are read aloud. Pick a currency to get the accounting phrasing, such as one thousand two hundred thirty-four dollars and fifty-six cents.
How the Romanian rules are handled
Romanian number words carry grammar that most quick tools get wrong. Gender agrees with what is being counted — o mie and două mii (feminine) but un milion and două milioane — and the linker de appears before a noun or scale word only when the last two digits are 0 or between 20 and 99: douăzeci de lei but nouăsprezece lei, o sută de lei but o sută unu lei. The engine applies these rules consistently at every scale.
Frequently asked questions
How do I write a number in words for a cheque or invoice?
Type the amount, pick English or Romanian, then choose a currency. The tool spells the whole amount plus the cents or bani, ready to copy onto the document.
What is the largest number it supports?
It spells whole numbers from 0 up to 999,999,999,999 (nearly a trillion), and a two-decimal subunit such as cents or bani when a currency is selected.
Does it handle decimals?
Decimals are spelled only in currency mode, as the subunit: 12.50 becomes twelve dollars and fifty cents. In plain-number mode, enter a whole number.
Why does the Romanian output sometimes add the word de?
Romanian inserts de before the noun when the last two digits are 0 or 20 to 99, so 20 lei is douăzeci de lei but 19 lei is nouăsprezece lei. The tool applies this automatically.
